Management
Management
The Management Discipline is recognised nationally and internationally as contributing to HRM and employment regulation, strategy and international business. Our academic research directly shapes both public policy and practice with a stream of publications in some of the world’s highest ranked scholarly journals. Our mission is to advance research on organisational performance and innovation through leadership in public policy, management and practice. The Discipline’s research focuses on people, policy and practice in different contexts. Going forward, we aim to be leaders in two related themes: (i) public sector management and (ii) policy and practice. This new direction stems from the research expertise of the existing group in areas which impact on public sector leadership, management and development, employment relations regulation, policy and practice, pension policy, innovation policy and practice, strategy, and international business.
The key teaching areas of the Discipline include a designated stream on Human Resource Management and a capstone module on strategy and innovation on the Bachelor of Commerce degree programmes and the Executive MBA. At postgraduate level, the Discipline offers three masters programmes: the MSc in International Management, the MSc in Human Resource Management (HRM) and the MSc in Strategy Innovation and People Management (SIPM). Both the MSc SIPM and HRM are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) at the advanced level. The Discipline also has a number of PhD students.
Discipline staff have associate editorial and board membership roles on several leading international peer-reviewed journals including: European Journal of International Management; Human Resource Development Quarterly; International Journal of Management Reviews; European Journal of Training and Development, Journal of Managerial Psychology; and Work Employment and Society.
The Discipline has very strong links with industry and professional practice associations. This is evidenced through ongoing research and consulting projects with a number of leading organizations that feed into research and teaching collaborations.
CIPD and MSc Offerings in Management Discipline
The MSc in HRM and the MSc in Strategy, Innovation and People Management are both approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) for accreditation at the advanced level. Students on these programmes can achieve Associate Membership of CIPD. After graduation, as they build professional experience, they can progress through the professional stages of CIPD membership from Chartered Member to Chartered Fellow.
