Sir Peter Freyer Special Merit Scholarship
Sir Peter Freyer Special Merit Scholarship
Peter Freyer graduated from Galway with a degree in Medicine in 1874. He went on to become civil surgeon with the Indian Medical Service, first at Azamgargh in Uttar Pradesh, and later at Moradabad near Delhi. He served with the Indian Medical Service for 20 years and published much of his research in the Indian Medical Journal. He was a famous pioneer in biomedical innovation, and is credited for developing the operation now known as prostatectomy.
Two Freyer Scholarships, comprising a full fee waiver (value: €13,750), are available. These scholarships are aimed at academic programmes in science, bioinnovation, and ICT. Applications for the scholarship are welcomed from Indian students seeking to enter one of the selected taught Master’s programmes at NUI Galway commencing September 2017.

Scholarship applicants are assessed based on academic merit. In addition, applicants will submit a personal statement (MS Word, 2,000 words maximum) covering the following points:

How the applicant foresees their relationship with NUI Galway developing in the future

How the applicant will promote links with NUI Galway, both during their scholarship tenure and as alumni.

Application for Admission to NUI Galway
Applicant applies for admission to one or more eligible programmes (listed above) via www.pac.ie. You must be accepted onto a Taught Masters Programme in order to apply for a Scholarship.

Scholarship Application
Applicant submits a Personal Statement to the International Affairs Office, NUI Galway. You must ensure to include the title of the scholarship scheme your are applying for in the subject of your e-mail and also your PAC application number (for example - Government of Ireland Scholarship, PAC application no. 17000000). You should submit your scholarship application to InternationalAdmissions@nuigalway.ie
You should receive an e-mail confirming receipt of your Scholarship application - if you have not had a response within 5 working days please let us know.
