Law Summer School Information

Dear Student,
In addition to visiting schools, meeting prospective students at Open Days and engaging in other promotional activities, my colleagues and I believe that the best way to test your interest in law is by participating in one of the Summer Schools that we organise for secondary school students.
These afford you the opportunity of taking part in lectures and classes delivered by lecturers from the School of Law in the real setting of University classrooms. You will be exposed to actual law subjects as opposed to ‘talks about law’. This will allow you to make your own assessment as to whether or not the study of law will interest you sufficiently before making a choice through the CAO. In addition, you will receive information on the many opportunities that will be open to you to spend a semester/year abroad in destinations such as USA, Canada, China, Australia and mainland Europe; to learn about how to qualify as a solicitor/ barrister/ judge and to find out about the work placements and supports available through the Law School at NUI Galway to assist you in your transition into the professions place after you qualify.
Our experience is that students who choose one of our undergraduate law courses, having participated in a Summer School, are more confident and secure in their choices and have a more clear view of what is expected of an undergraduate law student.
The 2017 Law School Summer School take place on the 8th and 9th of June and are suited to TY and Fifth Year students. Please note participation is free of charge.
Please indicate your preference for either the 8th or 9thof June when registering and we shall attempt to facilitate your first choice, where possible.
I hope you give this opportunity some serious consideration and I look forward to meeting you in person in June.
Best wishes,
Professor Donncha O’Connell,
Head of the School of Law,
